Figurehead Construction dream big with Kids Under Cover cubby

Posted by Master Builders on 16 Feb 2018 / 0 Comment

The team at Figurehead Construction will join four other project teams vying for the title of Australia’s Best Cubby at this year’s Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge®.

This is the first time the Master Builders member will be participating in the charity event, now in its tenth year, the aim of which is to provide homes for young people at risk of homelessness. Figurehead join two other member companies in the line up; Porter Davis (who are participating for their seventh year) and Becon Constructions.

The Figurehead Project team is lead by Pre-Construction Project Manager Adrian Di Cosmo, Accounts Manager Nikki Brown and Junior Site Foreman Will Sharpe who stress that the project to build ‘The Dream Catcher’ cubby is very much a team effort, sprung from their Charity Committee, launched two years ago.

“We’re looking for ways we can use our skills and expertise to help people in the community,” Adrian said.

“This project hits home for a lot of our team who have young families. We are trying to get people involved based on their skill levels and it will a be a hands on, group effort,” he said.

“We didn’t want to outsource too much instead drawing on our relationships to build it. We’ve found people have been really keen to get involved.”

Even the concept for the cubby was a team decision. The idea for ‘The Dream Catcher’ came about after a concept was circulated to the staff with architect project partners Bayley Ward helping with the final design.

“Our cubby will be quite tensile, with lots of ropes and areas where kids can climb and use the cubby in a non conventional sense,” Adrian explained.

Nikki said she was enjoying getting hands on with the project too.

“It’s good to raise awareness for the cause and it’s great for us girls to be able to get involved,” she said.

The project team plan to begin work on the core structure element in early February. Master Builders will keep you posted by tracking their progress on our social feeds.

The Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge will take place at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show in from 21 to 25 March. Visit www.cubbyhousechallenge.org.au for more information about the event.
