Porter Davis compete in Cubby House Challenge for seventh year

Posted by Master Builders on 21 Feb 2018 / 0 Comment

Porter Davis will participate in the Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge for the sixth year in a row building a cubby house inspired by an eagle’s nest.

The Eyrie will be one of five cubbies to be auctioned for the youth homelessness charity at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show in March. Porter Davis is one of three Master Builders members participating in the event, joining Becon Constructions and Figurehead Construction. Master Builders is a Silver Sponsor of the event which is in its tenth year.

Porter Davis People and Culture Coordinator Bridget Kelly said the project was an opportunity for departments across the business to collaborate.

“The project is fun, creative and definitely challenging. It gives those that have a creative flare an opportunity to join in the fun and those with no building experience a chance to broaden their skills,” Bridget said.

“The Cubby House Challenge is rewarding project. It builds relationships between different departments across our business and gives each of us the opportunity to work alongside our colleagues in a different way.”

The concept of The Eyrie is to create a place of sanctuary for children, an idea well aligned with the aims of Kids Under Cover.

“A child’s cubby is a place for a child to claim their sense of wonder and escape to the joy of play. A place to be themselves in a comfortable, safe and special environment,” Bridget said.

The cubby will reflect the materials and functionality of an actual eagle’s nest using logs, sticks and mirrors.

“The one sided mirror wall gives the child a unique sense of observing his/her environment, as the eagle does perched atop a cliff,” Bridget said.

Master Builders will keep you updated about the progress of The Eyrie by posting on our social feeds.

The Kids Under Cover Cubby House Challenge will take place at the Melbourne International Flower and Garden Show in from 21 to 25 March. Visit https://www.kuc.org.au/get-involved/cubby-house-challenge/ for more information about the event.
